I clipped these articles out of the Stars & Stripes in 68.  It was time to scan them before they fall apart.  You have to love the AFNTV programing.  You may need to increase your monitor zoom level to read some of the articles.

Thanks for the memories – I not only remember reading these articles at the time, but as a UH-1 pilot with the 48th AHC I was involved in the action on the Grand Sommet. I vividly recall having a Stars and Stripes reporter on board and taking him up the mountain during the fight, so the “How ROK’s…” article might describe this sortie.

Ken, you’re welcome. I was sitting on the beach in Nha Trang and could see flashes of light up on the Sommet. At the time we thought it was flamethrowers being used by the ROKs. I also have a memory, which may be wrong, of the New Jersey standing off the cost, shelling the Sommet. We couldn’t see the Battleship, but the muzzle flashes were visible. And I remember hearing the rounds as they passed overhead.

Thanks for the wonderful clippings, I remember some of them.
I was in the paper with a picture I think March or April of 1968. Haven’t got a copy of it and would like to get one, if you have it. I was named “analyst of the month” for Pacific region for the month of February.
    Thanks,
    Keep up the great work!!!

Stephen, thanks for stopping by. I’m afraid the articles I posted were the only ones I saved. Contact Stars and Stripes, they may be able to help.

Nha trang 1967 I vividly remember the constant artilery fire, night time flares and seeing puff work the perimiter of the base. In the day time you could see phantom jets coming over the hills at treetop level then releasing a glint of something then napalm cascading down the mountian. I have a few copies of Stars and Stripes circa 1967 if you want copies reply.

I served 18-months in Vietnam (1969 -1970) assigned to the 25th MP Co (Stationed in Cu Chi and Tain Inh) I was part of the VIP security force for Bob Hope when his USO tour hit Cu Chi-does anyone have any photos of the Cu Chi visit. I was posted directly in front of the stage during Bob’s show as well as escort for some of his guests
