Stars & Stripes Newspaper

In 1968 I paid a dime for the paper.  Today it will cost you fifty cents and a dollar for the Sunday paper.

There are three versions.  European, Mid East, and Pacific.

You can download it for free by clicking on the site below.

HI, I’m looking for a little guidance. I am the locator for a company of Vietnam Veterans. They had the “honor” of having a Stars and Stripes reporter with them on a number of missions in Quang Tri in 1970/71. They would really like to find the man and talk to him again.
His name was Dan K. Evans. I believe he was from up state New York but I’m afraid that’s all I know about him.
The company was C 1-11th 5th Infantry (Mech) at that time company Commander was Captain Barry S. Buckley.
Thanks for listening, if there is any help it is frosting on the cake. My joy comes from the fact that I’ve spent close to 7 years reuniting these guys. I lovingly call them “my grunts” and count them as my friends.
    Thanks Jeanne Mac.

Jeanne, Perhaps someone will read your comment and be able to help. Have you tried sending an email to the Stars and Stripes? Most of those folks, from back then, have probably retired or moved on, but someone there may point you in the right direction.

Would like to have a copy of a story ran in the 1968 Stars and Stripes about “Marines turn table on NVA ambush”. Would have been published probably in the August issue. It was about an ambush that happened on July 28, 1968.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

Jimmy, if you go to the electronic newspaper there is a section of Archives. This is what is listed.

    Archive services
The Stars and Stripes library staff provides research services utilizing our archives, which date back to 1942 for the European edition and 1945 for the Pacific edition. To contact the library staff, e-mail information@stripes.osd.mil.

I’m not sure if it’s free or not, but they may be able to help you.

I am trying to locate Security Police assigned to Udorn RTAFB during the ground attack against a C-141 Transport aircraft. I know of at least two killed, on a Thai Guard and a Crew Chief? assigned to the aircraft. I never knew the name of the Crew chief who was killed. I spoke to him just before he was killed.

    thanks,

    Billy

My brother was in Vietnam 1968-1970,Norman Samples (Tex) he was in the Charlie Company 2-503 173rd(English) Army. He was wounded in mid 1970. He had a best friend Victor Rosales same unit.
Norman shut down and would not write home. Victor would write mother and let her know that Norman was OK. The last time Norman went out on a mission, Victor went on a separate mission. That’s when Norman was wounded. That was the last time they saw each other. I have been looking for Victor all over the internet. Can not find much on their unit. Also checkout 173rd Chapter 5 Assoc. without any luck. I can not believe that their unit does not have very much information out there. I was checking to see what stars and strips might have. Can you help? My email is grocker@peoplepc.com. Please contact me if you or anyone can help, It would be deeply appreciated.

    Thank You
